Several years ago, Kyle Petty of NASCAR fame was huckstering some product on teevee. I think it was motor oil, but it might have been sandwiches. It doesn't matter. Anyway, every time his commercial appeared, he said, "Hi, I'm Kyle Petty."
What I heard was, "Hi, I'm Cow Patty."
I don't live in the South.

This reminds me of an incident a long time ago...a VERY long time ago, maybe forty years...with a cousin on the deep South side of the family.
"Kin ah borra a pin?"
"Sure. Do you need a safety pin or a straight pin?"
"Ah need a fountin pin."
I enjoy regional dialects. I grew up in the Tidewater region of Virginia, but the local dialect wasn't readily apparent because there was a large transient military population.
This story doesn't really fit, but I'm going to bang it in like a square peg in a round hole.
During the 50's or early 60's, before the interstate highway system, my grandparents were driving home to Iowa from Virginia. They stopped for gas in Kentucky. The man pumping gas asked my Grandpa where they were from.
"Iowa," said Grandpa.
"Iowa," the man repeated, paused, then said "'Round these parts, we pernounce it O-HI-O."
Yeah. One time, I managed Confuse-A-Cat levels of confusion when I said, "To-may-to, to-mah-to. Po-tay-to, cha-rahd."
