There's a contest called Waist Away at Work, where teams get together to lose weight over eight weeks. I've joined a team. The scale at work marked me 12 pounds heavier than my scale at home. That was not especially encouraging.

No it's not, but it might help in the contest. For the final weigh-in, weigh yourself at home and self-report the weight.
You've magically lost an extra 12 pounds!
So, basically the scales give the same reading, give or take twelve pounds.
A coworker told me that her scale at home showed her 12 pounds lighter than this scale at work.
I suspect some kind of error.
